PBATS are really excited to be supporting SS Athletics as our chosen community interest project for 2024.
SS Athletics (SSA) was set up by Daryl Blows in 2019 with the ultimate goal of providing a platform for young people to build confidence and fitness through track and field sports.
SSA is unique in that children from as young as 6 are given the opportunity to enjoy athletics whether they have competitive ambition or simply want to have fun in an inclusive environment.
Many of the qualified coaches volunteer their time and go unpaid in order to support the club financially. The club has also grown significantly from 3 coaches and 22 athletes in 2019 to 17 coaches and 200 athletes in 2024.
The event offering has grown from sprints, endurance and jumps to hammer, discus, high jump, long jump and triple jump. This growth is fantastic for the children in the local community, and whilst the club does ask for membership subscriptions, there is a real need to replace old and tired equipment, to fund club kit, coaches and competition expenses.
PBATS are therefore carrying out several fund-raising events throughout 2024 to support this project, and we hope that you will join us in supporting them too.
Kerry Beales of PBATS, who is also a coach at SSA, will be running the London Marathon in April to raise funds for SSA. This will be the first of our fund-raising events, with details of her Just Giving page to follow.
